Rockit Global Limited today announces the resignation of CEO Austin Mortimer. Austin has been with the company for almost five years and has been a pivotal part of the company’s rapid global growth.
“It’s always challenging to get the timing right when the inevitable time comes to part ways with any company, and I’ve always been someone who errs on the side of departing early rather late.
But deciding to leave Rockit has been particularly difficult,” Austin says.
Rockit is the world’s first miniature apple, developed and first grown in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, Rockit™ apples are now sold in 27 export markets and grown under license in nine countries.
“I’ve lost count of the number of stores and countries in which I have handed out Rockit™ apple samples and without exception, everyone remarks what a terrific eating experience it is. That has always been such an immense source of pride,” says Austin.
When Austin joined Rockit, it had approximately 60 hectares of trees planted in Hawke’s Bay. Five years on there are more than 340 hectares planted, with plans in place to expand to 800
hectares and beyond.
Board Chair John Loughlin says Austin has been an integral part of the company’s growth, “I want to thank Austin for the fantastic job he has done bringing Rockit to where it is right now, poised for the next stage of growth and development. He has built a hugely capable team and initiated our exciting Irongate development (future home of Rockit). We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
Austin says for him it has always been about the people, and that is what he will miss the most. “I have immense appreciation for the team I have worked alongside and everything we have built together. I am so proud of what we have achieved, and I wish them all the very best. I have no doubt there are many great opportunities ahead and the future at Rockit is something to be very excited about,” says Austin.
