In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, French customs services carried out an exceptional seizure while controlling a truck at the tollgate of Nîmes-East.
The driver, a Serbian national, was transporting expired oranges in his trailer. Intrigued by this unusual merchandise, customs officials proceeded to search the cabin where they found 650,000 euros in cash.
For the moment, the driver has not provided any explanation on the origin of the funds he was transporting. A judicial investigation has been opened for “money laundering”. Estelle Meyer, deputy of the prosecutor, indicated that investigations will be carried out by the national service of judicial customs and the judicial police of Montpellier.
