Fred van den Eijkel, Katwijk Waspeen:

First Dutch new season carrots

Many people in the Netherlands - including those from Katwijk - will associate the term 'Hollandse Nieuwe' (New Dutch) with the first barrel of herrings, but for Fred van den Eijkel it is really all about the first new carrots to come on the market. Today, the Dutch season has started once again.

"Many of my supermarket customers immediately step in as soon as the first Dutch carrot is available. And I have to say, they are also super tasty," says Fred. Katwijk Waspeen sources all the product from growers in the region. In addition to GlobalGAP, the carrot is also PlanetProof certified.

Fred has no complaints about the demand for his product. "But where you sometimes sold to an exporter in the past, it has now really become a supermarket trade. I only sell more carrots. If your quality is good, then the sale follows automatically. The selected carrots are grown on sandy soil with sampling taking place before the first sowing moment. "
