Taramay establishes itself as a key player in the sector

The demand for Andalusian tropical fruits continues to grow

The 2019/2020 tropical fruit campaign has been good for the producer Taramay (La Unión Corp). Its main products are avocado, papaya, cherimoya, loquat, guava and mango.

The weather conditions and the subtropical microclimate in the south of the peninsula are ideal for the cultivation of these fruits and their production has increased. In recent years, avocado consumption has grown considerably, both globally and in Spain. All tropical fruits are in high demand and therefore their production has expanded notably, especially in Andalusia.

Taramay's growth as a company is fundamentally due to the work carried out with producers on the Costa de Granada and Malaga, offering exceptional payment terms, as well as specialized agronomic advice on each of the crops it works with. Also, in order to guarantee the supply to each of its clients, it imports products from specific growers in America, making it possible to meet the demand between May and August. In the 2021 campaign, the company aims to handle over 5,000 tons.

Avocado
This fruit's campaign runs from spring to early fall. Currently, Andalusia produces 85% of all Spanish avocados. Their versatility and their growth thanks to society's healthy eating trends have turned avocados into the flagship tropical fruit.

The import of avocados from South American countries has allowed Taramay to expand its marketing window, which has been beneficial for Spanish producers. Prices have remained stable. This season, Taramay will be marketing 6 different types of avocados (Bacon, Fuerte, Hass, Lamb Hass, Pinkerton and Reed).

Cherimoya

In recent years, cherimoya consumption has remained stable in the domestic market, while it has grown in some countries of the European Union.

In any case, the fruit remains an important product within this range. Taramay grows it mostly in the province of Granada.

Papaya

100% of Taramay's papayas are grown on the coast of Granada. In the 2019/2020 campaign, this perennial crop has given a qualitative leap compared to last season.

This exotic fruit is very healthy. It stands out for its antioxidant properties and versatility. Papaya facilitates the digestion process thanks to its laxative and purifying properties. It contains high levels of fiber and water.
