Chilean kiwi exports to Europe and the Middle East increase

According to the latest Crop Report of the Chilean Kiwi Committee, up until week 20 of 2020 total exports amounted to 60,623 tons, i.e. 12% less than in the same period of the previous year.

Europe is the main market with 25,148 tons and a 43% increase over the same period of 2019. The growth in shipments to Italy (+91%), the Netherlands (+54%), and France (+63%) stand out.

The Far East ranked as the second destination for Chilean kiwis with 12,130 tons, i.e. 37% less than in the same period of 2019. Shipments to Japan increased by 5%. Latin America ranks third with 9,106 tons and a drop of 24%. However, exports to Brazil and Mexico increased by 11% and 29%, respectively. The Middle East imported 3,291 tons, registering a growth of 43%. Shipments to the United Arab Emirates increased by 137%.

Finally, Chile exported 3,227 tons of kiwi to Russia, i.e. 51% less than in the same period of last year.

The Hayward variety accounts for 95% of total shipments; 41% of this was sent to Europe, 15% to Latin America, 18.7% to the Far East, and 13% to North America.
