Government has not formulated concrete export plans

India: Plum season in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh

Plum season is about to start in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district, but no plans are in place to ship the crop to exterior states or the arrival of adhatiyas (middle men). Up until now the federal government has not formulated any concrete plans to ship the crop out of the state. Plum growers of Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Rampur, together with the district, are deeply involved in regards to the crop.

If merchants from outside the district don’t come in, the growers will suffer severe losses. The growers say that the federal government ought to take the initiative on this. All varieties of plums are presently being grown on 11,000 hectares of land in the Kullu district.
