This month, the market price of waxberries dropped significantly compared with the last. An important reason for this is that waxberries from Cixi have been trickling into the market. Insiders said harvest has just started in the past few days, and the volume is still limited. This year is an on-year, and the fruit’s overall quality is good. At present, waxberries grown in greenhouses in Cixi are sold for 60 to 70 yuan per half a kilo, the same as last year. Due to the weather, waxberries in Cixi ripened earlier this year than the last. It is expected that the harvest period of greenhouse waxberries will last through early June.
At present, open field waxberries in Cixi are still green. Farmers said that the fruit will turn red in a few days, so consumers still need to wait a bit longer for open field waxberries, but what is certain is that this year an on-year. The fruit set rate has improved a lot this year, and the fruit is expected to ripen earlier. If weather conditions remain favorable, the open field product from Cixi is likely to be available around June 7 and the peak harvest season is likely to fall around mid-June.
The COVID-19 outbreak at the beginning of this year has little effect on the production in Cixi, but it is not known whether it will affect the harvest and sales after large volumes arrive at the market in the coming weeks. At present, greenhouse waxberries from Cixi are rarely seen in fruit shops. In early May, products seen on the market were mainly from Yunnan. In late May, those from Fujian arrived at the market.
Volumes from Wenzhou and Lishui will not become available until the beginning of June at the earliest, and volumes from Yunnan and Fujian will only leave the market after the volumes from Cixi flood into the market.
