Manfred van der Vlag, Sweet Fruits:

"Clean market and quick sales ensure good mango sales"

The mango market is relatively clean and the demand is good, which results in a good market situation, according to Manfred van der Vlag of Sweet Fruits S.A from Emmen, part of the Brazilian Secchi Agricola group with branches in Portugal and the Netherlands. "The number of containers that now enters Europe is such that the market can cope well. Prices are at a level around 7.50 Euro and even higher for the small sizes."

"The supply now mainly comes from Africa, but the Ivorian season is already coming to an end. The volumes from Mali will not have a major effect on the market and Senegal will only enter the market with reasonable volumes from June. In addition, there is still supply from Brazil but those volumes are also decreasing, the local market is also reasonably good there. Overall, the total supply will remain limited in the coming weeks. "

At the start of the Corona measures, the mango market looked very different. "At that time there was a large volume available and the lockdown was in the way. We had it for two to three weeks, but then the market picked up again and the demand really comes from all over Europe. So no reason to complain," Manfred concludes.
