IFG secures trademark registrations in China

The Baker McKenzie FenXun Joint Operation successfully assisted IFG in securing trademark registrations in China, including for one of its popular varieties, Sweet Sapphire in Chinese, "甜蜜蓝宝石". In addition, the firm also assisted in evidence preservation and administrative actions against illegal plantations and unauthorized trading and promotion of IFG's grape varieties. The firm successfully obtained favorable outcomes for the company in both Jiangsu and Shaanxi provinces. A local agricultural authority in Jiangsu province has imposed administrative fines for the illegal promotion of an IFG variety; meanwhile, a natural resources authority in Shaanxi province has ordered a local grower to cease the illegal propagation and trading of budwoods of an IFG variety.

Commenting on the matter, Andrew Sim, who heads the firm's Plant Variety Rights practice in China, said, "We are very pleased that we have been able to draw on our legal capabilities and strengths in advising on IP and plant variety rights issues, and successfully assisted our client in safeguarding their IP rights. We look forward to continue supporting our clients to protect its commercial interest and also of its licensees, so that they can continue to provide high-quality fruits to Chinese consumers."
