Over three million fennel plants harvested by Caligari&Babbi

Fennel from Caligari&Babbi grown in Romagna is already available on the market. The company went from the 2 million plants produced in Emilia Romagna in 2019 to the 3.3 million plants planted in March. "Quality is excellent as the produce was transplanted in spring. That transplanted in the fall does not have the same freshness, aroma and intensity," explains sales manager Marco Babbi.

Quality is rewarded and, at the moment, fennel quotations are good. "We are pleased because we can work well and producers, the real added value of the entire chain, are satisfied. We started transplant operations on March 1st and harvesting started on May 10th. It will continue until approximately June 20th with the produce from the Fucino area."

The produce is currently demanded by both the domestic and foreign markets and especially by Germany, France, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands. They care a lot about high-quality and appreciate the new produce a lot.

Quality and harvesting phases are monitored by Vittorio Caligari

"We kept on working through the emergency taking all measures necessary. Prices fluctuated a lot and we were at times surprised to see the produce on special offer in retail stores while it was lacking. There was in fact a productive gap in late April due to weather problems, as the winter months were warm and dry."

Volumes have increased since the start of the year, also thanks to the new processing warehouse designed according to our production needs.
