The Agricultural Food Health and Quality National Service (Senasa) reported that the European Union had certified the Argentine lemon as free of fruit flies after analyzing the work carried out by the Bishop Colombres Agroindustrial Experimental Station (EEAOC) on the incidence of this pest in this crop.
As a result, the Phytosanitary Association of the Argentine Northwest (Afinoa) announced that it would no longer be necessary to continue with fly monitoring in lemon production units. The computer system has already modified and adapted to proceed with the certification of the crops without taking into account the three monitorings of the fruit fly in the three months prior to the harvest.
The production units must comply with traditional monitoring (for cancrosis and black spot) under the same conditions as before (at least two controls before the harvest and the last one no more than 15 days before harvest). For the rest of the citrus, they clarified, work will continue as before.
