Argentina has increased the export of pears and apples in the first quarter of 2020 by 30% and 22%, respectively, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
Russia became the largest export destination for Argentinian pear suppliers in January-March 2020. In just these three months, more than half of the total export of Argentinian pears to Russia in 2019, amounting to 81 thousand tons, was shipped to the Russian market.
“In January-March, pear shipments to Russia amounted to 44.9 thousand tons worth more than $ 31 million. Thus, this country has become the main market for Argentinian pears, accounting for 30% of all exports,” said the representative of the Ministry.
Apple exports in this same period amounted to 3.2 thousand tons worth more than $ 2 million, which is 22% more than last year. The Ministry stressed that Argentinian suppliers benefit from the preferential customs tariff applicable in the EAEU countries for exporters from developing countries.
