Honey pomelo fruit set rate in Pinghe, China lower than usual

“The production season of honey pomelos in Pinghe is now underway. The recent weather changes have had certain impacts on cultivation,” Zhou, manager of Xiamen 4 Seasons Import & Export Co., Ltd. shared.

"Although the volume of flowers during the blooming period in March was higher than the previous years, in early April, the area was caught in a cold snap and suffered from a week of rainy weather, leading to 70-80% of serious fruit fall and flower fall during the second blooming period. Over two weeks ago, the area also experienced a few hot days, which has also led a few trees to drop fruit." Zhou said.

“Judging from the current situation, the fruit set rate is lower than last year, but for the detailed estimates, we still need to wait a few weeks. Under normal circumstances, the crop will become available between August and September, but if we face unusual weather conditions, this may be delayed."

Chinese pomelo is an affordable item with a taste that’s popular with the public. It is an established fruit that is generally appreciated by consumers at home and abroad. Europe, North America, and the Middle East are key overseas markets for Xiamen 4 Seasons Import & Export Co., Ltd. “With the increasing number of export companies comes increasingly fierce competition. At the same time, overseas customers are also having higher requirements in terms of quality and price. Against this challenging backdrop, we take full advantage of our own orchard and processing plant to provide more integrated, professional, and passionate services according to our customers’ needs. By cutting the intermediate links, we are also able to make our product more competitive in price." Zhou said.

The export volume of Xiamen 4 Seasons Import & Export Co., Ltd's increases steadily every season. "We are committed to continuous improvement and innovation to provide good services to our customers. At the same time, we have applied for various certifications for our export products such as GAP and certification for social responsibility."
