The current market moment is not easy to understand. A first choice product sells at 17-18 euros per box, and even up to 23 euros per box for the product with the most well-known stamp. "I believe there is a strong psychological component in the current market situation - says Alessandro Dal Bello from Sife - with wholesalers who do not stock up and buy day by day".
It is a very irregular year, as one can easily imagine. We had started with a high transport cost, due to fuel, but in the last two months the brent (crude oil) price has decreased, albeit less than we expected.
"In the production areas, at least the ones we know, work continued - said Dal Bello - Problems have occurred in the search for containers, but now the situation is slowly normalizing. The contracts were signed when the euro/dollar ratio was more favorable, while now the dollar has strengthened somewhat. When we talk about the banana market we are dealing with a situation that is always very complex".

During Phase 1 of the pandemic (the tight lockdown) consumption did not decrease, but there are very diversified price ranges. The most renowned bananas have very high prices and, at the same time, there are many products with secondary or completely unknown brands sold at very low prices.
