The Russian Ministry of Agriculture, which conducts regular monitoring of prices, issued a report in April stating that the price dynamics were mixed.
The Ministry expects to maintain a stable situation on the market of vegetables and an increase in production this year. This will mean potatoes will be planted in some 1,33 mln hectares, which is 51.200 hectares more than last year. For vegetables, this number is 527,200 hectares; almost 10,000 hectares more.
At the same time, the prices of greenhouse vegetables are dropping: cucumbers in April fell by 12.6%, to 66.89 rubles per 1 kg, tomatoes – by 17.2%, to 109,32 of the ruble. Numbers from May 5th state that 401,200 tons of vegetables are coming from the greenhouses, which is 20.6% more than the previous year. This number includes 280,500 tons of cucumbers (19.3% more), tomatoes – 113,300 tons (25.3% more).
