Brussels authorizes temporary self-regulation of the potato processing sector

The European Commission has decided to authorize the temporary self-regulation of the European potato processing sector because of the impact that the closure of the hospitality industry has had on its activity.

Regulation nº 2020/593, which was published on May 4th, authorizes farmers, producer associations, the unions of these associations, recognized producer organizations, associations of recognized producer organizations, and recognized inter-branch organizations to conclude agreements, take joint decisions regarding the recall and free distribution, transformation, processing, storage, joint promotion, and temporary production planning of potatoes intended for processing for a period of six months starting on May 5th.

The competent authorities of the Member State will have to be informed of the estimated production volume covered by the agreement and the expected period of application.
