The first lychees from Hainan became available in early April. In the coming weeks, along with the advancement of the production season in Hainan, crops from other production areas such as Guangdong and Guangxi will also gradually become available.
“The current supply from Hainan mainly consists of early varieties sanyuehong and guihuaxiang. As the planting scale of these varieties is not significant, their influence on the market is limited. Prices so far are quite high, at about 30-50 yuan per half a kilo, as they are the earliest varieties on the market with limited supply. However, with more lychees becoming available, prices are expected to drop to about 10 yuan per half a kilo, especially in May when the supply will increase significantly, prices may fall below 10 yuan in the middle to late May,” says Mr. Wu Bin of Hainan Wushen Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd. 
"Last year was an off-year, with unfavorable weather conditions resulting in declining production, but the weather this year is much better and production has returned to normal. Therefore, supply this year will be larger, which will naturally have an impact on prices. Thanks to the stable weather conditions this year, the peak season also came about half a month earlier. The feizixiao variety has been trickling into the market from Hainan, and crops from other production areas will also become available at around May 10. The production of this variety is far higher than the others, and the eating quality reaches its best in May. "
