The sale of Orri mandarins produced in Spain has increased by 15 percent compared to the same period last year.
In recent times, the consumption of citrus fruits has notably increased, mostly due to their high content of vitamin C, which is believed to help improve your defenses against the coronavirus.
This increase in sales has also entailed a rebound in the price of this protected variety compared to recent weeks, standing between 0.80 and 1.20 Euro per kilo at origin.
The Orri mandarin has traditionally been very well received in the wholesale markets in Spain, accounting for approximately 50% of the volume marketed.
For this reason, the Orri Running Committee (ORC) has carried out a communication campaign in the main wholesale markets in Spain (Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao) focused on promoting the consumption of mandarins and, specifically, of the Orri mandarin, whose exceptional flavor and easy peeling make it a tasty source of vitamin C for the whole family.
In recent years, the reputation of Orri mandarins has improved a lot, both in the productive sector and at the consumer level, which is why the association is convinced that as more people get to know the variety and its exceptional flavor, it will become the preferred mandarin among consumers. The variety stands out for its excellent organoleptic properties, easy-peeling and healthy attributes, as well as an extraordinary shelf life, which facilitates its export to multiple markets and reduces food waste.
The Orri Running Committee is a non-profit association made up of more than 480 producers of the Orri premium mandarin variety. Its main objective is the Control, Defense and Promotion of this variety.
The Orri variety is a protected plant variety that stands out for its exceptional qualities, such as its easy-peeling, low seed content and great flavor. It also has an optimal shelf life that makes it possible to supply the domestic market between the months of January and May.
