FrescoFrigo: an innovative retail concept

To change everyday lifestyles through the sale of quality, fresh and healthy products, using innovative technology and improving the user experience. This is the mission of the FrescoFrigo team, a cutting-edge start-up launched in September 2018, currently working on the development of an innovative retail concept (1 m2), smart and healthy.

It is a smart refrigerator with fresh and quality products, designed for the needs of people who are very attentive to their lifestyle. It is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

One example is the installation of five smart refrigerators in the modern and technological Social Village Cascina Merlata residential complex, located north-west of Milan to meet the needs of over 900 people living in the 397 apartments.

Enrico Pandian, creator and founder of FrescoFrigo, said: "After installing smart refrigerators in numerous Italian locations, such as large offices and fitness clubs, and in the United States and Portugal as well, we started to think about how we could help people during the Coronavirus emergency. We have put to work our experience and technological ability to bring the supermarket to them, so they can buy groceries without leaving their residential complex and without standing in long lines, thus making them feel safer. We have worked very quickly to install those and, with the collaboration of retail partners and Laserwall (Laserline Digital Signage), we succeeded".

The offer in the FrescoFrigo is supplied by local retailers and includes a selection of healthy and fresh foods that ranges from ready meals to smoothies, from fruit to vegetables, from drinks to cold cuts and cheeses, as well as basic ingredients such as eggs, milk, flour and bread. The prices of the products for sale in the FrescoFrigo are identical to the sale prices of traditional channels.

The residents can view the products from the large front window, unlock and open the fridge via the dedicated app, choose the products they need and complete the purchase by simply closing the fridge door. The system will detect the operation and charge the customer for the cost of the products chosen, on the payment system entered on the app at the time of registration (digital restaurant tickets or credit card, for example).
