"Strawberries are currently doing well: demand is good both domestically and abroad and production is higher than in previous weeks. Consumption is starting again, and demand is in line with supply; we have high expectations for the evolution of this campaign and we expect maximum production for the end of April". So said Pietro Paolo Ciardiello, manager of the Coop Sole di Parete (CE).
"The recovery in consumption has also led to an increase in prices; in fact, in wholesale markets the price of strawberries has almost doubled compared to a few days ago: this is an encouraging sign. It is necessary to always seek and guarantee a fair price both to producers as well as consumers, thus encouraging sales".
"Comparing the current commercial moment with that of last year, from the final balance at March 31 2020 there is a product increase of 20/30% and a price reduction of about 20/30%. Therefore, larger production volumes compensate for the slight drop in prices".
"I must say that organic strawberries are also doing very well: in fact, we are satisfied with prices and quantities. In the same way, the SìBON branded strawberry is gaining a lot of interest both in Italy and abroad: the product is very appreciated and recognized and the feedback is extremely positive".
"From the end of this week, Coop Sole will market the strawberries in an eco-sustainable and recyclable packaging made by Comieco. For the graphics, it relies on the creativity of four children. On the basket there will be the following slogans: Everything will be fine! - You too choose the italian product! (in order to support the whole Italian strawberry supply chain) - Together we will make it!"
Coop Sole respects the current regulations on safety in the workplace, sanitizes all the surfaces of the processing warehouse several times a day and cleans thoroughly all the workplaces on a weekly basis. In addition, all necessary safety measures are also taken in the fields: a maximum of two workers work per tunnel, equipped with the appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment). "I believe - says Ciardiello - that maintaining this way of working after the emergency as well can better protect consumers and operators".
"I conclude by launching an appeal to everyone: let's stay at home, together we can make it and, if possible, let's consume Italian strawberries".
