Coop Denmark and Lidl Sweden aid local growers

Coop Denmark and Lidl Sweden want to support the Danish and Swedish growers and producers in order to help as many companies as possible through the corona crisis and to keep food available for the Danes and Swedes.

Coop Denmark
Coop is opening a sales channel with Coop Crowdfunding that small and medium-sized food producers can use for free. The channel is especially for growers and producers who supplied to the catering industry and can no longer sell their products there.

Lasse Bolander, director of Coop Denmark: “We've talked to more than 50 companies and even with the latest government aid packages they are struggling to make ends meet. They are losing between 50 and 100 percent of their turnover. Many are now running into the problem that they do not have a webshop and therefore cannot get their products to the consumer. ”

Now the first 10 companies are ready to sell their products through the Coop platform. One of them is Frankly Juice. Christian Bowall, co-founder of Frankly Juice: “We sell our products to many catering establishments and because everything is closed now, we have lost most of our turnover. We do not have a webshop ourselves, so it is very nice for us that we can now use Coop Crowdfunding as a sales channel. Hopefully we can limit the loss a little now. ”

Lidl Sweden
Lidl is also calling on Swedish growers and producers to contact the supermarket chain. Their goal is to develop new partnerships and get more Swedish products in the shops.

Malin Laurén, director of purchasing at Lidl Sweden: “We are in an extreme situation and that is why we have to come up with new ideas and act quickly. We have been focusing on a larger Swedish range for some time, but the corona crisis is causing us to continue accelerating this. I therefore call on all growers and producers in Sweden to contact me directly so that we can enter into new partnerships. We would like to help out and in this way also safeguard Swedish food production. ”

Lidl Sweden distributes products from approximately 150 different Swedish producers. The aim is to further expand the Swedish range, which is already large at the moment.
