Many Norwegian growers fear that the lack of seasonal workers will cause problems with crop work and harvesting. Solutions are now being worked on including, by making use of (temporarily) fired Norwegians. However, Norgesgruppen now wants to assure growers that products grown in Norway are given priority over their supermarket chains.
Runar Hollevik, director of Norgesgruppen: “Our chains need a lot of the fruit and vegetables that will be grown this year. My message to fruit and vegetable growers from all over the country who deliver to us is that they should simply grow as planned. We want to give priority to Norwegian fruit and vegetables.”
Norgesgruppen manages the supermarket chains Kiwi, Meny, Joker and Spar. Hollevik is optimistic and thinks sales will go well: “This season it will be more important than ever to choose Norwegian products. We are optimists and think that fruit and vegetable sales will do well this year. We have also indicated this to distributors Bama and Gartnerhallen.”
