Ecuador's banana exports continue despite the health crisis

The Banana Export and Marketing Association of Ecuador (Acorbanec) reported that, despite the health crisis unleashed in the country by the coronavirus, which has forced authorities to confine part of the population, banana exports continue normally, although with lower prices.

There are actors in the chain, such as truck drivers, certain workers, and service providers, including dock crews in some port terminals, who have been absent, but production continues being shipped, stated the guild's executive director, Richard Salazar Veloz.

Producers in the province of Los Rios, the largest banana producing region in the country, confirmed this and stated that all the fruit was being harvested, even though the price stood at only $5 per box.
