US: Million-dollar marijuana shipment found in boxes of bananas

On Tuesday, US Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr International Bridge decided to search a truckload of bananas coming across the border from Mexico. With the help of drug dogs, the officers discovered 200 packages (4,616 pounds) of marijuana hidden in the banana boxes. The street value of the drugs is estimated at $923,290.

“Amid the ongoing effort to facilitate lawful trade as the nation responds to the current public health situation, our frontline officers within CBP Field Operations continue with the enforcement posture of keeping drugs and other illegitimate merchandise from entering into the United States,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.

According to foxsanantonio.com, officers seized the marijuana, the tractor/trailer (and the bananas) as the case remains under investigation by Homeland Security.
