Chinese celery price shows significant decline

The wholesale price of celery from Zhucheng in Shandong was around 1.1-1.2 yuan [0.16-0.17 USD] per 0.5 kg in Shanghai Jiangqiao Wholesale Market. That is a decline of 39% in comparison with the price of 1.8-2 yuan [0.25-0.28 USD] per 0.5 kg around this time last year. The main reasons for this development are as follows:

1. The major consumers of celery are large businesses and restaurants, which all reduced their consumption volume during the COVID-19 epidemic. Celery sales slowed down, while the supply volume of celery from Zhucheng was more than abundant.

2. The overall celery supply in Shanghai is much larger than around this time last year and the product quality is better too.

In the end, the price is much lower than around this time last year, but the price development still falls within regular margins when compared to the last few years. In addition, the product quality is quite good this year.
