109,000 tons exported

Chilean blueberry exports decreased, but only by 1.5%

As highlighted by the latest report of the Blueberry Committee, during the 2019/2020 season the country exported 109,291 tons of blueberries, i.e. 1.5% less than in the previous season. According to the report, the social crisis unleashed in October last year did not significantly affect port operations so the season unfolded similarly to the previous year. However, "the Chinese market was paralyzed for at least 3 weeks after the Chinese New Year because of the coronavirus, affecting a portion of the containers that arrived on those days."

Organic blueberry exports continued to increase like in the previous period and achieved a record of 15,470 tons exported until week 11, i.e. 16% more than in the previous season.

Destination markets
Chile sent 52% of its blueberries to the North American market, 32% to Europe, and 15% to the Far East. Shipments to North America decreased by 11% over the 2018/19 season while shipments to Europe and to the Far East increased by 8% by 20%, respectively.

77% of the organic blueberries exported by Chile were sent to North America, i.e. 11% more than in the last season. Europe concentrated 23% of exports, with a 41% growth.
