"We are at the disposal of the authorities to help maintain the supply of fruit"

ASOEX has made a press statement due to the state of catastrophe in Chile: We have a duty to express our opinion regarding the declaration of the state of catastrophe announced by authorities.

First of all, we consider that this decision is fundamentally based on the responsibility of the authority to promptly control and eliminate the virus that is affecting Chile so that the country and its institutions can resume normal operations as soon as possible.

Secondly, we place ourselves entirely at the disposal of the corresponding authorities to help maintain the normal supply of fruit in the domestic market. This, considering the relevance that fruits have regarding an adequate diet, providing vitamins that help improve the population's health conditions.

It should be noted that nearly half of the fruit produced in our country is marketed in the domestic market.

Third, we believe that it is essential that the decisions that are implemented regarding the operation of the food chain are adopted in a centralized manner and with uniform criteria throughout the country to avoid applying different measures that may be contradictory and harmful for workers and consumers.

Finally, we remain at the disposal of our authorities to give them all kinds of information that may contribute to future decisions.

Ronald Bown Fernandez
President of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile, AG
