Despite the fact that trading and purchasing activities continued in the greenhouse tomato segment in Ukraine this week, the prices for these products still fell, report EastFruit project analysts. Market participants explained that this situation is due to an increase in the supply of imported tomatoes, which are traditionally shipped to the Ukrainian market from Turkey.
According to representatives of wholesale companies, at the moment, imported tomatoes from Turkey are sold for 26-30 UAH / kg ($ 1.01-1.16 / kg), which is on average 16% cheaper than at the end of the previous working week. At the same time, market operators reported that a sharper reduction of prices in the greenhouse tomato segment was avoided due to the steadily high demand for these products.
It is worth noting that today, imported tomatoes in Ukraine are already on average 17% cheaper than in the same period last year. However, market operators don't rule out further declines, since the supply of tomatoes from the foreign market remains quite stable.
