In the preparation for the upcoming Ramadan festivities in the period of April to May 2020, a number of Indonesian importers of dates have been putting out inquiries to suppliers in Tunisia and Egypt. Their goal is to anticipate the high demand for this commodity from the Indonesian market.
Normally, the demand for dates in Indonesia will rise to around 85-90% compared to the month outside of Ramadhan season, as more and more people will be consuming dates due to religious reasons.
Aside from Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Egypt have been the major importers of dates to Indonesia as the dates varieties from these countries are highly preferred by the local consumers in Indonesia. Despite the increasing price for dates during Ramadhan, large amounts of dates will still be absorbed by local consumers on a daily basis.
