The apple variety Venus Gold was unveiled last year in Shanghai at iFresh Asia, where its golden color, unique flavor, and sweet and crunchy texture left a deep impression to those present. Since then, over 85% of the high-quality crops have been fetching purchase prices as high as 15 Yuan/half a kilo at the place of origin.
Although Venus Gold is a descendant of Golden Delicious, its seasons are not much different from those of the Fuji variety. The flowering period lasts from mid-April to early May, and the fruiting season lasts from late October to early November. At present, it is mainly grown in Weihai City, Shandong Province, where it has been performing well, and the project "Research on Introduction and Trial of Venus Gold" was successfully concluded last year.
As for its market, Japanese experts say that this variety is very popular in Japan, sold at prices several times higher than Fuji as a gift. At this year's apple show, many growers also reported that gift boxes with matching Venus and Fuji are very popular. Meanwhile, the average purchase price of Venus Gold in Weihai has remained above 15 yuan per half a kilo over the past two years.
