François Moran, Tropibana:

“The pineapple market has made a spectacular turnaround”

Last week, the pineapple market was still in deficit with few volumes available and particularly high prices. However, the situation has just suddenly changed. “There has been a lot of imports. Selling prices were reaching 15-16 euros [16.8-17.9 USD] per package, and they are now down to 6-8 euros [6.7-8.9 USD]. Some suppliers even offer me packages at 5-6 euros [5.6-6.7 USD],” explains François Moran of Tropibana. “We can say that since yesterday, the market has completely turned around.”

This sudden drop in prices is due to an sudden increase in volumes on the market. It has nothing to do with any evolution in quality, which is the same as last week.

The situation concerns all origins in general, with Ivory Coast being the only origin maintaining a correct selling price.
