According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey produced 14.000 tons of avocados over the past 5 years and thus increased exports by 41 times.
Last year, avocado production in the Mediterranean Region of Turkey increased by 33% compared to 2018 and reached a production volume of 4.209 tons.
Antalya has been the largest producer with 3.409 tons and was followed by Mersin with 699 tons, Mugla with 78 tons and Hatay with 23 tons. In the same year, the country exported to 33 countries.
Russia is the top export market
Over the past 5 years, Turkey exported 2 million USD (1.8 million Euro) worth of avocados. In 2018, Turkey earned 546,367 USD (491,000 Euro) from avocado exports and in 2019 this increased to 1,182,561 USD (1 million Euro). Thus the export value increased by 116,4% in 2019 compared to 2018. Whereas in 2015, the country exported only 28,956 USD (26,000 Euro) worth of avocados. This means that Turkey increased avocado exports by 41 times.
Last year, Turkey's top export market for avocados was Russia with an export value of 198.892 USD (178,000 Euro). This was followed by Romania with 179.790 USD (161,000 Euro) and Ukraine with 169,445 USD (152,000 Euro).
