"Chile sent more grapes to Europe due to corona virus"

After a period with low volumes on the grape market, there is currently enough supply on the market again. “Four weeks ago there were few white seedless grapes on the market, but because of the virus in Asia, Chile sent more grapes to Europe. The market for white seedless grapes is currently good. The prices are at a good level and the sales run smoothly. There are not really shortages, but we cannot speak of an oversupply either," says Henk Vlaeminck of Van Dijk Foods Belgium.

“However, there is some pressure on the market for red seedless grapes. There is sufficient volume on the market and sales are somewhat disappointing. South Africa, Chile and Peru are currently in production. The quality of the grapes from all three countries is excellent. Peru and South Africa have beautiful super juicy grapes in the sizes extra large and jumbo. The quality of the Chilean grapes is also great, but the sizes are a bit smaller this year due to the drought that the country has had to deal with in recent times. The size of the Chilean grapes is on average large, "says Henk.

“In addition to grapes, the Spanish strawberry season is also going very well. It has been a bit more difficult for a few weeks, but in recent weeks we have sold a lot of Spanish strawberries, "continues Henk. The Spanish stone fruit season will also start soon at Van Dijk Foods Belgium. "We expect the first volumes around the end of March / beginning of April and so far the expectations look very positive."
