Chilean exports to China have decreased by more than 50%

According to the government agency dedicated to the promotion of Chilean exports, ProChile, since the outbreak of the coronavirus in China was declared, exports of fresh produce to that country have decreased by 50% to 60%.

Even after the president of the National Agriculture Society, Ricardo Ariztia, stated that there were at least 1,500 containers of cherries stranded in the ports of China without being commercialized, Ronald Brown, the president of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile (Asoex), expressed confidence in the measures that China is taking to contain the epidemic and to return to normal as soon as possible.

In addition, there is concern about the low availability of refrigerated containers, as a large number of them are being held in Chinese ports; thus stopping the constant flow of these essential elements for exports.
