Planasa Peru is constituted and Marcelo Luengo is appointed general director

Planasa has recently established its new subsidiary Planasa Peru. It will have a nursery for the development of new blueberry varieties from the company's R&D center in Cartaya (Huelva), which were launched to the market last year.

This new project will be led by the newly appointed General Director of Peru, Marcelo Luengo, a man who has nearly 20 years of experience in operations and management positions in Chilean and Peruvian fruit and vegetable companies

He was the General Director of one of the most important companies of fresh fruit production and started the operation in Piura (Peru) for the production of 2,000 hectares of table grapes, 350 hectares of blueberries, 250 hectares of avocados, 150 hectares of organic banana, and 100 hectares of sour limes.

“We already have six commercial varieties with spectacular characteristics, which I am sure will adapt very well to Peru's climate variability and will express all the characteristics that differentiate them from other genetic varieties such as, better calibers, better flavor, greater firmness, longer life, high productivity, and ease of collection, among others. An imminent varietal replacement is coming to Peru and Planasa will be there for it, delivering not only plants but also a general support adapted to the needs of producers and final consumers. That is to say, we will be a strategic market partner,” Marcelo stated.

Upon joining Planasa, the new General Director of Peru acknowledged that “it is a giant challenge to represent one of the most important nurseries worldwide, as well as a leading company in the sector of plant innovation. There is a tremendous and very professional team working every day in the search for new varieties that respond to the needs of producers and final consumers. They work with passion and dedication, so I'm really proud of being part of this select group.”

In addition to his previous experience in the sector and his extensive background, Marcelo said that he was “passionate about fruit growing. I have a very clear look at what producers demand nowadays and I can more easily capture the needs of the market. Our experience, passion, and quality will be the perfect mix for the success of the Planasa project in Peru.”

“We are convinced that Marcelo is the ideal person to lead this project and represent the Planasa style in Peru because of his great experience in Peru, his spirit of teamwork, and his approach to the needs of farmers,” stated the CEO and President of Planasa, Alexandre P. Darbonne.

Marcelo is an Agronomist specializing in fruit growing from the University of Concepción (Chile) and an Agricultural technician from the El Carmen Agricultural School (San Fernando, Chile).

With the opening of its activity in Peru and its consolidated presence in Mexico, Morocco, and China, Planasa has managed to be present in the world's main blueberry cultivation markets and is the privileged partner of the great marketing projects of this and other berries throughout the year.

Planasa is an international company, a leader in the agricultural food sector that specializes in varietal development, especially of berries, nurseries, and agricultural food. With more than 1,500 hectares of land, it is one of the largest nurseries in the world and the world's leading producer of fresh endives.
