Peruvian pitahaya exports haven't taken off yet. In fact, in 2019, the country exported 6.3 tons of this fruit worth $ 59,000 and an average price of $9.8 per kilo, which is 63% less than the volume exported in 2018.
According to Fresh Fruit, in 2019, Peruvian shipments were mainly sent to the Philippines, which had a 37.7% share, followed by Aruba with 37.6%, and Vietnam with 18.2%. The main exporter was CJ Inversiones Export & Import, which achieved shipments for $ 29,000 (in 2018 it made no exports).
More than 40 countries currently purchase pitahaya, but its production in Peru is still low. Market prices range between 8 and 12 dollars per kilo. The markets that pay the most for it are Vietnam (13 dollars per kilo), Aruba (11 dollars per kilo), and the Philippines (8.4 dollars per kilo).
Demand is growing in China and the United States.
