Producers worried about apricot trees in bloom in Romagna

While the scene is beautiful to look at, producers are not very happy as the prolonged high temperatures have made apricot trees blossom. The photos were taken on 16th February 2020 in the hills around Cesena (Forlì-Cesena).

"I am worried because this may lead to problems caused by frost. Frost would be normal this time of year, it is the plants that have blossomed way too early," explains producer Loris Babbini.

Fabrizio Casadio produces stone fruit in the Faenza area (Ravenna) and is just as worried. "We already have the first flowers on the hills, while I believe trees will blossom in 6-7 days' time in the plain. We are just holding our breath waiting to see what will happen."

Luca Molinari, technician from Consorzio Agrario Adriatico, explains that "peach trees have started to blossom too. I have seen plants of the Garofa and Early May variety in bloom in Santarcangelo (Rimini) and Mensa (Ravenna). The situation is worrying."
