Valencia will join the protests of Spanish agricultural producers on February 14

On February 14, a demonstration will be held in Valencia to denounce the extreme situation that the agricultural sector is going through and to demand short, medium and long-term measures from the Administrations to make sure that the activities of Valencian producers remain profitable.”

The protest has been called by the professional agricultural organizations that are part of ASAJA in the Region of Valencia, the Unió de Llauradors i Ramaders and the Union of Small Agricultural Producers and Cattle Farmers of the Region of Valencia (UPA-PV).

Profitability crisis in most agricultural productions and "discrimination" of the CAP
According to the most representative associations of the Valencian agricultural sector, one of the main motivations to protest is the profitability crisis in most agricultural productions (the worst kaki campaign ever has recently come to an end), as the “sector is unable to transfer the constant increases in production costs to the price of its products.”

They have also denounced “the perpetual discrimination of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) towards Mediterranean crops, or the unjust criminalization of agriculture and livestock as a polluting sector, despite its essential environmental contribution, its role in mitigating climate change and compliance with the most rigorous legislation on the planet in phytosanitary, environmental and animal welfare matters.”

The Region of Valencia, “leader in abandoned farm acreage”
This panorama, which may be described as "discouraging", is translating into the Region of Valencia being "a leader in the abandonment of agricultural land (more than 161,000 hectares left uncultivated), given the lack of generational relief and the aging of the agrarian population. There is also a loss of irrigated agricultural land and a deficit in the balance between agricultural insurance premiums and compensations.”

"Given the need to change this trend, the convening organizations encourage all agricultural producers and ranchers of the Region of Valencia to attend the aforementioned demonstration," they said.
