Ortomad

Human capital as a main resource for innovative processes

In 2019, Ortomad activated a development plan supported by R&D investments and projects in both the industrial and agricultural fields.

The extension of the production area, which now covers 10 thousand square meters, has made it possible to build an integrated facility in line with the corporate mission so as to supply produce that is fresh and safe. The production facility boasts innovative plants and technologies in line with 4.0 industry logic.

"Our production process guarantees the highest food safety and safety in the workplace standards and reaches objectives at a low environmental impact by respecting the resources employed and thanks to a sophisticated traceability system," explain the managers.

The introduction of various innovations and the redesign of processes enabled an increase in production efficiency by 25%.

Packaging is for Ortomad one of the main priorities to guarantee the safety of products and their storage as well as to safeguard the environment. "Over the past couple of years, we improved our packaging by redesigning the various solutions and introducing new sustainable and recyclable materials."

"It is important to define how to support development. It is our responsibility to support the Ortomad staff so that they can feel an active part of the growth. They continue to represent a priority together with the respect for our land and for our business.

The Management activated the "New Age" project to introduce new talents and training plans. In 2019, there have been 718 training hours and the staff increased by 14%.

Last year, the horticultural segment grew on both the domestic and European market and Ortomad registered a turnover of €40 million (17% more than 2018).

This growth is due to the recognition for Ortoma's hard work, as it curated the agricultural productions and set up a processing system that maintains the produce unaltered.

"Our Business model builds a lasting relationship with customers by creating product value. This is why we keep investing on the nutritional profile of our vegetables and employing practices and tools with a low environmental impact," states Sales Manager Clotario Maddalo.

Ortomad is committed to cultivating agricultural products with characteristics of an increasingly higher quality that also respect the environment. To this end, it employs digital technologies that monitor micro-climatic conditions and environmental parameters.

The data detected by a complex sensor system is processed and used to define the condition of the crops and choose the most suitable agricultural practice to prevent diseases, respect the soil and obtain the best quality.

This is why the company is looking to achieve the following in 2020:

  1. Maintain economic growth by strengthening the development projects initiated
  2. Implement innovative processes and tools thanks to the cooperation with Research centers and Universities
  3. Complete the control system applied to the Industry and Agriculture to measure the sustainability of objectives thanks to reports supporting the certifications to be obtained in 2020.

Ortomad will attend Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Hall 6.2 stand C03.
