Fellini focuses on zero waste, ecological packaging and saving energy and water

A 'green' focus in order to be appreciated in all markets

A series of initiatives will make 2020 the year of the ecological turning point for the "Fellini Patrizio" company. First of all, the new "Io Riciclo" packaging will be available soon.

"We are carrying out an innovative project - says Emile Fellini - that is to use cartons made with a part of recycled material. Recycling involves many actors, first of all the individual who must differentiate the garbage, the local authorities that must collect it and finally the industries themselves that must recycle and make this material available for reuse. Specifically, all the cardboard boxes used until now will be replaced with boxes made of 65% recycled raw material and 35% of virgin material".

The inks used for printing cartons are water based and 100% non-toxic, and suitable for food contact. The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) mark will be put on the new packaging, a voluntary certification which concerns good forest management and certifies the chain of custody.

But this is only the first step. The water recycling plant is about to be completed, so that all the vegetable washing waters will be purified and reused, limiting waste as much as possible.

"On the energy front too - goes on Fellini - we want to make a change by purchasing only green energy; not only for the company, but also for all the employees who will be interested, who will thus be able to reduce both their bills and their ecological footprint".

"We are also continuing on the zero waste front - explains Lamberto Giovanardi, sales manager - after the great success achieved with strawberries. The next challenge, which we'll tackle in autumn, is to produce lettuce with zero waste".
