Dutch ABC Fresh offers growing range of overseas product

“We look forward to the Indian grape season with confidence”

The overseas grape market is currently in a transitional phase. There is a shortage of supply of South African white grapes at the moment. The opposite is true for red grapes. Red grape sales are going smoothly, according to ABC Fresh BV's management. This company is based in De Lier, the Netherlands.

The first pears are already on their way from South Africa to Europe.

The Indian grape season is on the brink of beginning too. Here, there is a slight delay compared to last year. "We are expecting the first containers in three weeks. That is ten days later than usual. Despite this, for now, the forecast looks good for the Indian grape season. This goes for all the varieties. We are, therefore, looking forward to the season with confidence," says the ABC Fresh' management.

From overseas top fruit to sweet potatoes
ABC Fresh has been in operation since January 2015. It forms the Dutch branch of a German parent company from Hamburg. Since its inception, ABC Fresh's client base and overseas product assortment have increased significantly. Between October and June, this trading company offers a wide range of overseas grapes.

These come from countries such as Brazil, Peru, Namibia, South Africa, and India. ABC Fruit confirms that top fruit also makes up part of the company's core assortment. "The first South Africa pears are now on their way. Later, in mid-April, we will start with Chilean apples. Varieties from New Zealand will follow these."

The usual exotics are also part of this business' fixed offer. The company has mangoes from Brazil and Peru, and avocados, also from Peru. ABC Fruit is now able to offer less common trade products year-round as well. "We get limes from both Brazil and Mexico throughout the year. Sweet potatoes is a growing market segment too. Here, we supply American product year-round," explains the business' management.

"We also have Egyptian sweet potatoes available between June and October. We get supplies from South Africa, in tandem with the Egyptian season." The overseas pomegranate season is about to start too. "This week, we will be getting the first Indian Bhagwa variety. Next week, the first Peruvian Wonderful pomegranates should follow."

Growing European activities
This fledgeling trading company is currently being lead by a two-member sales team. Later this year, the business will relocate to new business premises. This site is located in the nearby village of Den Hoorn. From there, ABC Fresh wants to gradually expand its activities. "We have experienced considerable growth in all the important European sales markets in recent months. That is why we will be recruiting new personnel soon. We want to continue working on this expansion," the company's management team concludes.
