“The two-piece ‘deck and lid’ design differentiates these boxes from standard refrigerated containers by offering far better access"

CakeBoxx Technologies recently announced the introduction of their new two-piece ‘ThermoBoxx™’ refrigerated containers.

CakeBoxx Technologies designed these new models as a time saving, cost-effective solution for the movement of temperature-sensitive cargoes that would normally be difficult to load and unload through conventional reefer container doors due to their size, shape or weight. The side and top loading capability sets them apart from conventional containers and provides a strong value proposition for speed of loading, product safety, security and loss prevention.

“The two-piece ‘deck and lid’ design that ThermoBoxx shares with other CakeBoxx containers differentiates these boxes from standard refrigerated containers by offering far better access. When loading and unloading conventional containers, shippers can only move goods in and out through the doors, which is not only challenging with many cargos but also completely prohibitive in some cases."

"We meet many shippers whose cargo would fit in a container volume but physically can’t be put there! Having a removable lid gives you a completely open flat platform that can be easily loaded from the top and all sides. You can load it how you like, and not waste any space either. ThermoBoxx opens up cost effective container-based shipping to many markets with a requirement for temperature control whose cargos could not previously ship this way.” explains Stuart Clark from CakeBoxx.

“The 360-degree access also means goods can also be more effectively secured once positioned on the deck, reducing risk of damage during transit. ThermoBoxx containers have a simple twistlock system on the four corners for securing the deck to the lid making it very quick and easy. The speed at which the loading and unloading process can be carried out reduces the risk of wastage in transporting perishable goods like fresh produce but is also important for sensitive equipment and products such as in the electronic and pharmaceutical markets. Customs inspections can also be carried out faster and more effectively. The lid is lifted by standard container handling apparatus such as forklifts and reach stackers, so container inspections are straightforward. Once the lid is lifted, you can walk the perimeter of the deck and never be more than a few feet from any of the cargo, negating the need for laborious and time-consuming destuffing. Again, this limits the break in the logistics chain, which is obviously very important where keeping temperature is the primary issue at hand.

Just launched on the market, ThermoBoxx containers will initially be available in both 20’ and 40’ hi-cube versions. As with all CakeBoxx models, fully customized versions of the ThermoBoxx are expected to follow shortly, including both 45’ and 53’ hi-cube models.
