"Buying is easier than selling on the potato market"

According to potato trader Felix Molenaar from potato and vegetable wholesaler Molenaar, in Haarlem, the Netherlands, the potato demand is currently very calm. "The demand for small packages in the domestic market is very calm and there is quite a large supply. You can buy a lot more potatoes than you can sell. "

"In addition, I hear that exports to distant destinations have somewhat subsided. Nevertheless, demand will have to come from abroad if current prices are to remain stable. Now the advantage is that the demand can turn around. In the neighbouring countries there have been some problems. Everything stands or falls with demand from abroad. If those people get hungry, the domestic demand falls into nothing," Felix notes.

"But in my view, the prices that are currently listed on the market are too high, because we just had a few months of moderate sales. Although some potatoes have remained, but looking nationally, the volumes are not that big. The factories are doing well, but export demand is very average and even the street markets are quite. The demand for varieties such as Bildtstar and Eigenheimers is really not running yet.
