The sale of onions in Italy is proceeding well, with good prices and stocks decreasing. This is confirmed by Matteo Freddi, owner of a company specialized in processing and marketing, located in the province of Reggio Emilia.
"There are some conservation problems - begins Freddi - and this leads a reduced offer. Thanks to this situation, prices remain good and continue to grow. The quotations to producers have been good in the countryside as well".
To date, at the end of January 2020, prices for golden onions ranged from 30 to 37 cents/kg (in nature in stock), more than 50 cents/kg for white and 45 cents for red. "But the stocks are decreasing and the situation is not clear, even abroad; for this reason, many are asking for it in order to stock up a little."
The problem of the past few weeks has been preservability . Due to the summer weather trends, many onions don't last for long and yields decrease.
"One of our top products, the Borrettana Onion - concludes Freddi - is giving us excellent prices. Preservation is difficult, but the best batches sell very well and compensate for the losses in the warehouse".
