Dirk-Jan van Dijk, Palm Fruits:

"An increased demand for Medjool dates in Eastern Europe too"

Palm Fruits has been in existence for a year now. Last year, Dirk Jan van Dijk started this business in Bergambacht, the Netherlands. He sells dates. And things are going splendidly. "Supermarkets, as well as wholesale markets, know us as a 'one-stop-shop' for Israeli Medjool dates. We offer these both as conventional and organic."

"The first weeks in January as usually a little quieter. However, in November and December, there was still a lot of demand. We expect the demand to explode at around Ramadan. We work with a large player, and, therefore, have a sufficient supply. These are used as a base for the supermarket programs. We offer dates year-round. But, more importantly, we can guarantee this product's quality throughout the year. To achieve this, we work with four quality sortings," says Dirk-Jan.

Palm Fruits supplies dates in various sized packaging. These range from 100g to 5kg. They also have a new '3dates2go' pack. It contains just three dates in a consumer pack. Scandinavia, Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom are some of Palm Fruits' important sales countries."We are also seeing a rise in demand for Medjool dates from Eastern Europe. It is a relatively expensive product. However, people there are increasingly recognizing the health benefits of eating dates," concludes Dirk-Jan.
