Good season for PDO oranges from Ribera

"The trend is more than positive for the 2019/20 campaign of PDO oranges from Ribera, which confirms us as leaders in the commercialization of this precious citrus fruit. Oranges are of good quality when it comes to both grades and organoleptic quality. This year, there has been a drop in production compared to the past campaign, and producer and sales prices have increased," explains Paolo Parlapiano, sales and marketing manager for Parlapiano Fruit Srl.

PDO oranges from Ribera of the W. Navel variety represent 90% of the entire production. They have been grown in Ribera (Agrigento, Sicily) ever since 1930 thanks to the ideal climate, excellent quality of the irrigation water and soil and to the skill of producers who employ crop techniques that have been handed drown from father to son.

"As regards the commercialization of the produce with the PDO brand, over the past three years, Parlapiano Fruit alone has represented around 70% of the total produced in terms of volumes commercialized (official MIPAAF data), with a strong increase envisaged for this campaign, which goes from December to March."

PDO oranges from Ribera have a blond flesh, are easy to peel, sweet and pleasantly crunchy thanks to the perfect balance between the soft and fibrous parts. They are excellent eaten fresh or to make juices. Thanks to their juiciness, they are a main source of vitamin C, a natural antioxidant that strengthens the immune system.

Ideal for all kinds of dishes from starters to dessert as the peel does not undergo any post-harvest treatment and is therefore edible. It is only washed with drinking water and dried before packaging.

Its distinctive characteristics include the texture of the flesh, with juice vescicles that dissolve in the mouth leaving no residues.

The valley where these oranges are grown is a unique territory with a microclimate that is key to the fruit developing its excellent characteristics. Parlapiano Fruit holds the IFS, GLOBAL GAP (GRAPS) and BIO certifications.

The company also commercializes organic W. Navel oranges and Vaniglia oranges under the PARADISO brand. The latter is a sweet seedless fruit that stands out due to its total lack of acidity and sweet flavor.
