US trade mission offers opportunities for export to Philippines

Exporters of American horticultural products and food were given the opportunity to explore new business opportunities in the Philippines during a horticultural mission from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to Manila on 20 - 23 April 2020.

The US export of horticultural products to the Philippines has doubled in the last 10 years and reached a record turnover of 2.7 billion euros in 2018. The expectation is that this turnover will continue to grow in the coming years. Morgan Haas, FAS consultant for horticultural matters at the US Embassy in Manila: "Thanks to the good relationship that the US has with the Philippines, local consumers have an affinity with American brands.

The country's fast-growing retail, food supply and food processing industries offer solid opportunities for US exporters who want to sell agricultural commodities, high-quality ingredients and consumer-oriented food and beverage products."

Other trade missions
In 2019, USDA organised six trade missions that enabled more than 240 US companies and organisations to participate in 3,200 meetings with foreign buyers, resulting in a turnover of 70.6 million euros.
USDA has planned seven trade missions for 2020, including:

North Africa (Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia), 16-19 March
Philippines, 20 -23 April
Spain and Portugal, 8-11 June
United Kingdom, 14 - 17 September
Australia and New Zealand, 19-23 October
Peru, 2-5 November
United Arab Emirates, 15 - 18 November
