Konkan region of Maharashtra, India

Arrival of alphonso mangoes impacted by unexpected weather

The production of alphonso mangoes in the Konkan region of Maharashtra was impacted by an extended monsoon, cyclones and a general change in weather pattern towards the end of 2019. This means the production of mangoes is expected to be around 30 to 40 percent less this year and is likely to arrive in the market only by the end of April, not by mid-March as per usual.

The alphonso mango from the Konkan region of Maharashtra has a Geographical Identification tag and is popular in India and around the world with over 50,000 tonnes of these mangoes being exported each year.
