Única Group, the Cooperativa Agrícola San Isidro (CASI) and Biosabor, three of the Spanish companies with the greatest presence in the fresh tomato segment, have presented a new variety of tasty tomato: Adora, which will be marketed under the Verdita brand, both in the province of Almeria and in foreign markets.
The presidents of the three companies that market products under the Verdita brand, José Martínez Portero (Unica), Miguel Vargas (CASI) and Francisco Belmonte (Biosabor) have highlighted the fact that Adora is “possibly the best tomato that is currently being produced; one that offers everything to be expected, with exclusive genetics and with the proper handling bringing back the true tomato flavor.”
Adora has been presented at the Tony García Gastronomic Space under the direction of nutritionist Aitor Sánchez, who was in charge of outlining the features that make this tomato unique, as well as “a real delicacy for gourmets and for those who missed the authentic tomato flavor.”
The tomato is the result of a long development process by the breeding company HM Clause.
Miguel Vargas highlighted the leadership of the three companies that have joined in this project, which account for a third of the tomato acreage of the province of Almeria. “CASI is the number one tomato producer in Europe; Biosabor is the largest organic tomato producer in Spain and Única is the main fruit and vegetable exporter in Spain,” he said.
Martínez Portero stressed that the catering industry "now has a product with a guaranteed flavor thanks to the arrival of the Adora tomato," and said that the salinity of the natural areas where it is grown "ensures its unique flavor and perfect balance between sugar and acidity.”
Lastly, Belmonte praised the innovations behind the Adora. "Thanks to a calibration machine that measures the sweetness of each tomato one by one, it is possible to obtain a homogeneous product with a quality guarantee."
