Rising dollar improves competitive strength of Chinese snow pea export

"China is one of the largest countries in the world in terms of snow pea exports. Production areas in China are able to produce snow peas throughout the year. Their supply volume is huge and overseas markets create a steady demand for Chinese snow peas." Alular of Kunming Sinovsure Import and Export Trading Co., Ltd. recently talked about current conditions in the export market for Chinese snow peas.

Snow peas are one of the main fresh vegetable products exported by Sinovsure Import and Export Trading. "Our main export markets include Canada, the Middle East, and England. We export around 600 tons of Chinese snow peas every year. Our overseas customers have always expressed a satisfaction with the product quality and price of our snow peas. Only three countries in the world are suitable for large-scale production of snow peas: Guatemala, Kenya, and China. However, Guatemala and Kenya only produce seasonal snow peas. Only snow pea production areas in Yunnan are able to provide a year-round supply. Our export volume is therefore quite stable," explained Alular.

"In 2019, we exported 600 shipping containers full of snow peas. That was an increase of 15% in comparison with 2018. The main reason our export volume is growing is the high position of the dollar in the second half of last year. When the dollar is rising, the competitive strength of Chinese snow peas improves because Chinese products become relatively cheap."

When asked about the advantages of their products, Alular explained, "We have exported snow peas for many years now. Overseas clients have come up with a great variety of requirements for product standards in recent years. The advantage of our products is that we can adjust the packaging and the product standards according to the requirements of every individual order regardless of size. We deliver custom-made service to our clients. For example, the snow peas exported by most Chinese companies are around 40-60 mm. However, some clients require smaller snow peas, so we select our products to filter out the snow peas between 35-55 mm."

Sinovsure Import and Export Trading mainly sells fresh vegetables and quick-frozen vegetables. "All our products are BRC and GAP certified. We can also deliver some organic vegetables for clients who have that preference. In addition to snow peas, we export a total of 6 thousand tons of fresh vegetables every year as well as 8 thousand tons of quick-frozen vegetables."

When asked about the Berlin Fruit Logistica, Alular said, "we hope to catch up with old clients, but we also hope talk with potential business partners from countries across the globe. We hope to bring fresh Chinese vegetables to more overseas markets."

Kunming Sinovsure Import and Export Trading will participate in the Berlin Fruit Logistica on February 5-7. All visitors are welcome at their stand in hall 27/F at booth 05e.
